Drawing for painting majors, 3 credit hours, Pre-College,  Summer Session. Instructor.

Drawing for sculpture majors, 3 credit hours, Pre-College, Summer Session.  Instructor.

Introduction to Oil Painting, 3 credit hours, RISD Adult Certificate Program.  Instructor.

Painting Marathon, 6 credit hours, Winter Session.  Adjunct Instructor.

In this introduction to oil painting, projects focus on painting from direct observation of still life, the live model, and more. Students develop the capacity to translate what they observe, first into simple tonal shapes and then into color schemes of varying intensity, hue, and temperature.  Through the study of composition, students make thoughtful appropriation of other art works and form their own narrative in their work.

2013 Art on the Edge of Politics, 6 credit hours, 3 weeks.  Instructor. Study Abroad Winter Intersession in Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand.

I was one of two instructors who led fifteen students on a study abroad trip.  The course involved significant logistical planning and several lectures before we left the country.  Art on the Edge of Politics explored how the countries of Vietnam, Laos and Thailand have undergone profound social, economic, political and cultural change as they have connected to the global economy.  In particular, the class examined how the Vietnam War affected the region’s visual art and crafts.
